There’s this kid you probably haven’t heard of: Noah Steadman. There’s no reason you should have heard of him until now, but now I am asking you to remember his name and to spread it to everyone you can. Noah Steadman is a self-proclaimed White Supremacist who moderates 4chon (basically 4chan for people who were kicked off 4chan for being too racist). Over the course of a couple of months he has been threatening the wellbeing of the students of Bard College at Simon’s Rock; now he has put the college’s staff, faculty and students in concrete danger, having been threatened with, among others, corrective rape, shooting, and bombing. Read the statement below, written by a friend of mine, for a detailed description of what has happened, and remember: Noah Steadman is a White Supremacist and a danger to our community.

Hello friends an family!

I’ve now been in LA for almost two months now, which is crazy! On one hand I feel like I just got here a week ago, and on another, I feel like so much has happened since I’ve been here. And while I don’t feel like this is my home, and still have to plug in Google Maps to my car whenever I leave one of the three neighborhoods I’m familiar with, I feel like I’ve had some notable successes.

As some of you know, I had an amazing trip to Hawaii two weekends ago to play lacrosse in an international tournament for a LA women’s club. I had never been to Hawaii before, and even though the weekend went by quickly and I was sunburnt and sore, I had an amazing time. I met some awesome ladies who I was honored to call my teammates and we placed third in the tournament.

The day before I left for Hawaii I finally moved into my own apartment after staying with a very generous and great friend for about a month. It’s in Studio City, which is just about 10 minutes from Hollywood, and I have two roomies, who are also Emerson graduates. And for the first time in my life I have my own bathroom and walk-in closet! Wahoo! Big girl steps! While it remains sparsely furnished until I make enough extra cash to buy basically anything, I’m just grateful to have my own room and to not have to worry about finding a parking space. Hollywood was a parking nightmare when I stayed there.

The second day I was in Hawaii I got a call from a online magazine that I interviewed at the day before I left, and I was offered the position I interviewed for! The 7:30am Hawaii time wakeup call was completely worth it! I’m starting there on Monday as an editorial assistant and I feel so incredibly lucky to have been given this opportunity.

So, in case you had trouble keeping track, that was moving into my apartment and getting a job within 48 hours of each other! I’m still completely amazed and grateful for all of this. I had been applying for so many jobs, and praying so much for just my job or apartment to get taken care of, and was really missing my family during the first few weeks I was here. But of course, just trust in the plan, and everything will come together.

I’ll still be working at my Starbucks throughout nights and weekends in addition to working 9:30am-6:30pm at my new job. For now, it’s worth it, because I could use the extra cash through the holidays, and I hope that it’s something I’ll be able to pull off for a long time because I do enjoy working there.

Thank you all so much for all your support so far. This is just the beginning of my “grown up” journey, and I know that. But I wouldn’t have been able to make it even this far without my family and friends. But mostly I couldn’t have made it this far without trusting in the master plan.

I gotta get better at doing this!

I got to LA a week ago today, and have done plenty of unpacking, grocery shopping, driving around, and working since then. I’m currently staying with one of my friends who graduated with me at Emerson who is living in a one-bedroom apartment in Hollywood, just about a block away from Hollywood Boulevard. I’m so grateful for her and that she is settled enough to take on a guest like me for a month before I can find my own place!

Dad and I drove through Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada to get here. It was very cool being able to stop outside the Denver area and walk around Breckenridge, where I had never been, and we also staying in Downtown Las Vegas on a Hotwire deal! We explored Fremont Street and drove over to the Las Vegas Strip and walked around a good deal. I had been there before but it was still very overwhelming!

We got into LA last Saturday night. On Sunday we walked around Hollywood Boulevard and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and then went to Santa Monica for the remainder of the day. He had only been to LA once before on a business trip and didn’t really get to explore too much, so it was nice that we had a day to do that. I dropped him off at the airport on Monday morning and he got back to Omaha late Monday night.

This past week I did some grocery shopping and got settled in. I’m staying in the living room at my friends place, so I don’t have much room to unpack, but it’s still cozier than I thought it would be. I have seen exactly one celeb so far, Ted Danson from Cheers at the Grove. I didn’t even know who he was at first. I had to go home and pour through IMDB to figure it out! I picked up a road map from Barnes and Noble which I don’t really know what to do with except basically just study, because I use Google Maps to get everywhere I go here. Drivers are going to be crazy here no matter how well I know the roads. Steve and I went to a beach on Wednesday in Santa Monica which was cool, but the water was colder than I expected! But of course, the whole week the weather has been beautiful.

I started my part-time job at Starbucks, which has been a little challenging because of how different it is from my store in Boston, but enjoyable nonetheless. It will be a good way to kill time until I get a “real person” job, which I am still relentlessly searching for! I have a few prospects and I am hoping and praying one will work out.

There was one point this week when it hit me that I wouldn’t really be experiencing fall like I would in Omaha or Boston, which made me super homesick. I’ll be looking forward to faking a fall here when I can buy pumpkins and light candles that remind me of all of that.

In the next few weeks I plan to try to get myself acquainted more with driving in LA, find a place with my new roommates, find some pumpkins to adorn the apartment with, and HOPEFULLY get this job I’ve been praying for. If not, back to continuing to apply for all of them out there!

Keep me in your thoughts and prayers, friends! I’m going to need it the first few months I’m here!

I found an image I made on We Heart It, and it wasn’t even originally posted on there from my blog. Now when you search “our time together is just never quite enough” on Google, my image comes up most frequently. I still love that image, and it kinda makes me sad that it’s not credited, but I have to remember that’s not the point of anything I do. Original post was here, made just over three years ago. The image also still lives on my DeviantArt here.

I know the me from three years ago would be happy to see where I am today. Passions don’t change, just dreams do.

I decided to keep a notebook of 365 days, and every year I’m going to write down something I did on that day. I want to look back five years from now and know what I did on that day, but just five years ago.

I think that I have a fear of just forgetting memories. So hopefully this will make me feel like I’m documenting my adult life sufficiently, but I do wish I started doing this, like, ten years ago.

This has also been a motivation to make each day meaningful, and to have something exciting to write down at the end of every day. If I accomplish nothing from this except my days simply continue to get more interesting and productive, I’ll be happy.

So, if you’re still following my blog in twenty years, perhaps I’ll be able to say something notable every once and a while like “THIS DAY IN THE HISTORY OF KRISTA…” Although, I feel like few people would care, unless I’m a big deal, which I intend to be!

1. People actually have rallied to support James Holmes, the alleged gunman of the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting. According to Mashable, a handful of Tumblrs have sprouted since the shooting, and tweets have also blossomed in support of Holmes, calling themselves ‘Holmies.’ This is so wrong on so many levels. Terrifying.

2. People are pissed at NBC. The hashtag #NBCFail has gained momentum through controversy surrounding their Olympic coverage and time delays in broadcasting the Olympics.

3. Everyone loves USA women’s gymnastics. More than 10 hashtags related to the team were trending on Twitter at some point this afternoon into nighttime.

4. People also love Michael Phelps now more than ever. He is now the most decorated Olympian of all time, so of course America likes winners.

5. Mark Zuckerberg’s sister is now a Google employee. Awkward.

6. Facebook “timeline” is going to be on most profiles by this fall. Prepare yourself for angry statuses, like there have been through all the past profile and interface changes. Oh, you don’t remember all those? Yea. That’s what I thought.

7. Say bye to Hotmail. Finally. But there’s a catch; they’re keeping the platform but renaming it “Outlook.com” That doesn’t make me like the email service any more than I did before, sorry.

8. “The Glee Project” fans still love Twitter. Without fail, fans take to the site every Tuesday to express disdain over the judges choice of who to kick off. Listen kiddos, is that not the nature of reality TV?

9. No one wants Ryan Seacrest to have anything to do with Olympic coverage. Like, no one. My favorite tweets include, by @DeborahSCraig “Now which event is Ryan Seacrest’s hair competing in?” And from @BettyBowers, “Ryan Seacrest is the high fructose corn syrup of TV journalism.
